HIP UPDATES!
If you are looking for summer volunteer opportunities, HIP’s got them! There are a number of different ways you can help out at HIP this summer – from helping prepare summer meals for kids, to transporting food to the summer meals sites, to helping serve senior meals. Search “Hunger Intervention Program” on volunteermatch.org for more details! Or you can contact Suzanne Stauss (sstauss@gmail.com) for more information.

Even if you don’t volunteer, join us for lunch this summer! HIP’s Summer Meals for Kids provides freshly made, nutritious lunches from the HIP kitchen at kid-friendly locations around the north Seattle community. HIP partners with other community organizations to offer activities at meal sites to encourage participation all summer long. Lunches are served from 12:00 – 1:30, Monday through Friday for kids 0-18 years old! Absolutely free to everyone and a whole lot of fun! Watch kid mail for more information coming soon!

CALLING ALL LIBRARY BOOKS!
With summer rapidly approaching, it’s time to return library materials for storage and (if necessary) repair.  The due date for all John Rogers Library books is June 5th.  I am the process of inventorying our entire collection, and will be sending out notices this week for excessively overdue and/or lost items.   Please check your family’s bookshelves, coffee tables, cars, and children’s rooms for anything with a John Rogers barcode.  (Our items are stamped on the inside covers and/or title pages as well.)
In the case of hopelessly lost or damaged items, please contact me directly.

Shopping at Amazon?
If you shop at amazon.com and would like a portion of all your purchases to go the John Rogers’ PTA…then please direct yourself to our PTA website to click on the school rewards Amazon.com link before you do your shopping. A portion of your purchase will be directed to John Rogers’ PTA.

Afterschool Enrichment Programs
We have an important announcement for you: To comply with City standards, we are changing our scholarship process for the After School Enrichment Programs.  Families now need to go through our standard application process.  I’ve attached the 2015-2016 Scholarship Forms.  This process takes in average 2-3 weeks; therefore we are encouraging families to apply now, so if approved, funds will be readily available in the fall.

Our Scholarships Applications are good from June 2015-June 2016; therefore you would also be eligible for other Community Center Programming throughout the City if approved.

Scholarship Applications are also available in the following languages: Chinese, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Somali. I’ve attached the English and Spanish versions; please let me let me know if you would like any/all of the other languages.

To Apply:

  • Fill out attached 2015-2016 Scholarship Application.
  • Drop-off: Your 2015-2016 Scholarship Application along with your 2014 Tax Forms (The participant must be a dependent).
  • Allow 2-3 weeks for this process.
  • You should get an email regarding your eligibility.
