February 16th and 17th – Presidents’ Day and Mid-Winter Break – No School

John Rogers Family Dinner and Art Walk Friday, February 6th  6 – 8 pm
The John Rogers PTA is sponsoring a free family dinner…TACO BAR!!!  There will be something for everyone (veggie, gluten and/or dairy free).  Dinner is served from 6 – 6:30 pm in the school lunch room.  The Art Walk will feature John Rogers’ students’ art and art from local middle and high school students.  Enjoy hand on art activities for the whole family.  If you are or know a local artist who would like to display their work, please contact Candice Haskins at cmhaskins@seattleschools.org.  Volunteers are needed to help with this great event, please sign up in the main hallway at the school or email Candice Haskins.  Please bring non-perishable food donations for the HIP and John Rogers’ food bank.

John Rogers Sweatshirt Sale $15
Show your Otter Spirit with a John Rogers Sweatshirt! These cozy, forest green hooded sweatshirts come in both youth and adult sizes and are only $15!  Sizes do run small, so you may want to order a size larger than usual. Order forms were sent home in KidMail last week. Extra forms are available in the school lobby. All orders need to be returned to school with exact cash or check (made payable to John Rogers PTA) by Wednesday February 4, 2015. Incomplete forms and late orders will not be filled.  Sweatshirts should arrive at school mid-February and information will be sent home regarding the date and location for pick up. This will be the only sweatshirt order of the year.  Contact Allison VanDoren (anvandoren@seattelschools.org) with questions.  Go Otters!

A Message from the Office… Applications to Middle Schools
If your child is applying for acceptance to a private middle school and you need assistance from the main office and/ or your child’s teacher when completing the application, we will need at least 2 weeks’ notice in order to properly assist you.    Please provide all the necessary materials at least 2 week in advance of the due date.  If the application needs to be mailed to the school, please provide a pre-addressed, stamped envelope.  Thank you.

From the advanced  Learning Department…
We are writing to update you on our Advanced Learning testing process at Seattle Public Schools. This year, we are processingmore than 5,400 applications and are continuing to test students through the end of February.  If your child has not yet been tested, he or she will be scheduled during the coming weeks and we will contact you at that point.  Additionally, testing results and eligibility letters will be sent by early March.  Thank you for your patience during this long testing process.  Please visit our website www.seattleschools.org/advlearning for the answers to most Advanced Learning questions

Homework Help at the Northgate and Lake City Library Branches
Monday – Thursday, 4:30-7:30 pm Do your kids need more help with their homework? Are you both getting frustrated by the new way kids are learning math? Check out our Homework Help! Volunteers are there to help kids with any Homework they’ve got!

Jane Addams PTSA Pancake Breakfast
Saturday, February 7th, 9 AM – 11 AM  Where:  Lake City Lions Club @ the Lake City Community Center – 12531 28th Avenue NE, Seattle 98125 Cost:  $5 per diner; $20 per family (All proceeds go directly to JAMS PTSA due to the generosity of the Lions Club!) Who: All school and community members welcome. So, invite your friends, family and neighbors to support JAMS. We will have a free book for every kid courtesy of the Lions Club and door prizes!

Nurses Office Needs Clothes!!!!
The office is in need of clothing.  When kids need to change at school it is nice for the office to have extra clothing for them to use…and it has a tendency to not be returned.  Sweat pants are great…all sizes needed, for both boys and girls!
