A Few Messages from the Office

  • We welcome and encourage families to be a part of our school community but if you plan on visiting your child’s classroom for any reason please make prior arrangements with your child’s teacher. Please be sure to have completed your background check with our office staff. Thank you!
  • Concerns about how your child is doing at school? – Your child’s teacher is the best resource.  Please talk to him/her before or after school, or emails work too.  Since teachers often need to attend mandatory meetings, making an appointment beforehand is encouraged.
  • Message to your child – We are happy to deliver a message to your child when an unexpected situation rises and you need to change your after-school arrangement (Please call the office by 2:30 pm).  Please note that we need to respect instructional time, and therefore we refrain from calling your child down to the office to talk to you on the phone.

John Rogers Elementary Volunteer Applications

Walk to Swimming? Help in your child’s classroom?

If you answer yes to any of these you must return your volunteer application along with a copy of your identification (driver’s license)!

All volunteers in Seattle Public Schools much complete the volunteer application process before volunteering. Volunteer applications are available in the office or can be downloaded at http://seattleschools.org. John Rogers’ school administrator is Ms. Keene.

Move-a-Thon Results!

Kudos to all of our Awesome Otters for their fundraising and fitness efforts at the Move-a-Thon! Our fundraising goal was $18,500.  With the help of parents, guardians, friends, family, employers, and local businesses, we raised over $23,500!!!  We’re expecting a few more late donations and corporate matching dollars.  With late donations, we will likely end up raising around $24,000.  If your employer will match your donation, please let us know how we can help facilitate that on our end.  We’re happy to provide the necessary tax documentation.

Your kids walked, ran, and rolled countless miles in fine fashion with their move-a-thon shirts, class colors, and crazy hair.  The weather mostly cooperated and everyone had a great time.  Thank you to all of the teachers, staff, and volunteers that helped make the event fun and successful.  Thank you John Rogers PTA.

All of the awards will be announced at the upcoming spirit assembly on Friday, November 13th.  The assembly will take place from 1:45 pm to 2:40 pm.  Families are welcome to attend.

We exceeded our fundraising goal.  We had the help of dozens of volunteers.  We have a wonderful community at John Rogers.  Thank you all very much.

With gratitude,

Shannon Malloch and Taryn Kohno, 2015 Move-a-Thon Co-Chairs

John Rogers Sweatshirt Sale

John Rogers Food Pantry Donations Needed

John Rogers maintains a food bank to help our families in need of assistance throughout the school year and provides food boxes during the school breaks.   We are currently collecting non-perishable food items for our Thanksgiving break food boxes.   Last year, we provided food boxes for approximately 25 families.   Please consider donating food or gift cards (Kroger or Grocery Outlet preferred). A donation bin is located outside the office at school or donations can be dropped off with traffic volunteers.   Suggested items include canned foods like soups, stews, tuna, chicken, vegetables and fruit; dried pasta, beans, legumes; peanut butter, cereal, granola bars, dried fruit, oatmeal, juice, holiday foods and treats, etc.    We need hygiene items like shampoo, soap and toothpaste.     If you would like to help with the food bank/food boxes, please contact Andrea Bergan at (206) 817-1340 or thebergans@comcast.net.

Food boxes will be available to families on Friday, November 20.  If your family needs assistance, please contact Ms. Keene in the office at (206) 252-4320 by Wednesday, November 18.
