Weekly PTA message- Oct. 5

Hello John Rogers’ Families!
This week’s events:

Swim Program
Session 1 participants will all be swimming again on Monday, October 6th.
Session 1 includes these teacher’s classes:  Ms. Rugen, Ms. Riley, Mr. Tabares & Ms. Bodensteiner

No School
There is no school on Friday, October 10th.

Information of interest to our John Roger’s Community:

Traffic
Please respect the rules of the road for morning drop off.  This past week we had many instances of children exiting their car before they reached the front of the drop off line.  This slows up the flow of traffic and is dangerous; please do not let your children out of the car until they are greeted by a traffic volunteer.

 Lunchroom Volunteers Needed!
Volunteers are still needed on Mondays and Thursdays from 11:50 – 12: 45
Please contact Christy Gardiner (christygardiner@yahoo.com) if you can help.

Art Docent’s Needed!
Do you love art?  Do you want to share your love of art with students?  Volunteer to be an art docent in your child’s classroom once a month.  We have the curriculum and all the support you need!
Contact Suzanne Stauss (sstauss@gmail.com) for more information.  Thank you!

Music Notes:
We’re off to a flying start to the year in the Rogers music room!
Students in all classes have created class behavior agreements which were sent home so parents and students know what is expected of them in music.  We have also learned two otter cheers to chant when we celebrate, such as at our monthly spirit assemblies.  Be sure to ask your student to show you!

In following our vision of “EVERY student seen, engaged, challenged, and growing,” students have been exploring the rhythms of their own names, playing them on instruments, and creating class chants out of them.

In celebration of our many cultures and languages, Rogers’ students are also singing songs, playing instruments, moving to music, and playing games from cultures around the world.  If you want to check in on what your student is learning in music, please visit the music section of the Rogers fusion site: http://rogerses.seattleschools.orgYou can also find more detailed information on the music that is specific to your child’s grade level by clicking on the staff section of the fusion site.  Under Stephanie Trinneer, there are grade bands you can click on that will lead to more information.

John Rogers’ Food Bank
John Rogers Elementary maintains a food bank with non-perishable food items and hygiene supplies for our families in need of emergency assistance.  If your family needs assistance, please contact our school counselor, Sheila Meagher at (206) 252-4322 or through a note routed through the office.

Our school food bank is not funded but relies completely on donations.  Please consider donating nonperishable foods, hygiene items and cleaning products.   These donations will be used to assist our families on an emergency basis and also a provide food boxes for families during school breaks.  A donation bin will remain in the front hall at school all year.   To help with the school food bank or if you have questions about donations, please contact Andrea Bergan at thebergans@comcast.net or (206) 817-1340.   Thank you for your support!
