Talking to Kids about Race & Equity – PTA Speaker Event at View Ridge Elementary

October 17, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Race still matters in America today. How can we raise children who go beyond the superficial notion of colorblindness to see and challenge the ways that privilege still shapes our lives? How can parents prepare to seize the teachable moments that arise when we least expect them?

Please join us on Tuesday, October 17 at 7:00pm in the cafeteria as we discuss these crucial tasks of parenting with speaker Jasen Frelot, the founder/director of Kids & Race.  Mr. Frelot, a community activist, father, early childhood educator, and social justice advocate, will help us as parents recognize and overcome our own barriers to talking about race as well as how to present and discuss information on race with our children in developmentally appropriate ways.

A commitment to dismantling racism and promoting equality is a community endeavor, and thus this View Ridge PTA-sponsored event is open to all interested parents, students, family members, PTAs, neighbors and advocates.
